Focaccia bread 🥖

Description

Focaccia is a flat oven-baked Italian bread product similar in style and texture to pizza dough. Focaccia can be used as a side to many meals like soup. This recipe is a no knead recipe. Very easy to make this bread and tastes delicious 😋

INGREDIENTS-

  1. All purpose flour (Maida) - 2.5 cups

  2. Olive oil - 6 tbsp

  3. Instant Yeast - 1 tsp (For active dry yeast - 1.5 tsp)

  4. Warm water - 1 cup

  5. Salt - 1 tsp

  6. Sugar - 1 tsp

  7. Herbs - 1/2 tsp (Garlic bread seasoning)

  8. Veggies of choice - i used cherry tomatoes, basil and onions

NOTES-

  1. You may not need the entire 1 cup of water so while adding it add slowly and little amounts so that your dough is perfect.

  2. You can decorate your focaccia with whatever veggies you want. Its all upto you.

  3. Just double the size of dough is enough do not let it rise more otherwise it will be really sticky.

  4. Measurement of flour is levelling it flat. You do not want too much flour as it will make your dough hard.

  5. If you are using dry active yeast you need to let it proof.

  6. All ovens work differently so make sure to bake it perfectly.

PROCESS-

If you are using dry active yeast then, take 1/2 cup if warm water and add yeast and sugar and keep it aside for 5 mins until the mixture turns frothy.

In a large mixing bowl add flour and olive oil. Give it a good mix using your hands. Now add salt.

Now add the yeast and water mixture and mix it all to make a dough. Now keep adding the other half cup of water in little amounts until your dough is formed and little sticky.

Now knead it for one minute just to get the dough together. Do not knead it too much. Tuck the dough from sides and cover it with a damp cloth and let it rest for 2 hours for the first proofing. Tap it with olive oil.

After 2 hours the dough will be double the size. Knock out all the air and in a tin (any tin) spread the dough with your hands by pressing it. Sprinkle the herb mixture on top. Now poke holes using your fingers.

Next step is adding your toppings. Decorate it however you want. I used cherry tomatoes, basil and onions.

Let it proof for another 20-30 mins. Preheat your oven at 200 degrees C for 10 mins. Now bake the focaccia for 25-30 mins at the same temperature. Cut it in pieces and serve it with soup.
